Day 7: Bethlehem PA to Lawrenceville NJ- We're baaack!

Image
The last day of the ride is always sweet and bittersweet, but it's a day on which we continually remind ourselves to keep our heads in the game- it ain't over until the fat bike sings.... The last day is a short day, 55 miles over familiar roads to the picnic as we bike along the Delaware River in Pa, before crossing over the river at Philippsburg. On the road for Day 7!  .   Once we cross over to NJ we are on very familiar roads. We cycled along the Delaware on stunning River Road, and carefully crossed the railroad tracks where Jack fell  cycling on this exact route two years ago. We biked through the lovely central NJ countryside. There's this one road we love outside of Milford with lush fields on either side, mountains in the horizon, and hundreds of butterflies fluttering around us. NJ still has some of my favorite cycling roads to this day... We got to our last SAG stop in Stockton, and had our last bite of the lovely watermelons w

Day 6: Hazelton to Bethlehem- Who'll Stop the Rain?

Well, our good weather karma finally ran out. But at least it was all concentrated in one, very wet day. We knew the day was going to be interesting just watching the amazing clouds and fog last night over the lovely Conyngham Valley from our hotel at the "Top of the 80's" in West Hazelton. Today was a 77 miler with 4400 feet of climbing- our second most challenging day. The forecast looked dicey all day with a high percentage of rain and chance of thunderstorms. It was lightly raining to start and we all needed to wear bright jackets or vests. Jack, Gabe and Ben left at 6 AM, and the rest of us took our normal 7 AM start (we figured we meet up at SAG 1 or 2). Day 6 Message Board DJ and Chrissie at the start-looking clean at the start! We were on busy roads to start getting out of Hazelton, and eventually found ourselves on quiet roads, with a constant light rain which was pretty manageable (once you're wet, you're wet and it's no big deal

Day 5: Lewisburg to Hazelton- DJ country

Day 5, wow this week is going fast. We were at two hotels this morning and lucky for us we convinced DJ, who was staying at the other hotel,  to bring our "chits" over since our place is more on the way). DJ clearly had his chit together this morning as he brought our chits over on time. (Chits are with the riders during the ride and get put back on the "chit board" so our Anchor House friends know who's out on the road and who's in). Chits Ahoy Joe Drulis not minding his own chit We left charming Lewisburg (really like this town) and headed out through rural terrain and nice roads. Once again the rain gods were on our side as severe thunderstorms were predicted late in the day but cloud cover kept us cool once again. Super humid but not super hot. We have been seeing our share of covered bridges in PA. They seem like relics of a lost time and I'm always excited to come upon one. Other scenes from the day as we cycled through small town
